WMF EP Tea and Coffee Set with Mappin and Webb Tray SOLD

WMF EP Tea and Coffee Set with Mappin and Webb Tray

A gorgeous tea and coffee set made entirely in good quality EP by the world renowned company WMF.

WMF was originally called Metallwarenfabrik Straub & Schweizer and was originally opened as a metal repairing workshop. Through mergers and acquisitions, by 1900 they were the  largest producer and exporter of household metal-ware in the world, mainly in the Jugendstil, or Art Nouveau style, designed in the WMF Art Studio under Albert Mayer, sculptor and designer, who was director from 1884 to 1914.

The tray is a clever addition and works well with the set although it was made by Mappin & Webb who are also a well known maker of these types of goods.

Mappin & Webb traces its origins to 1775, when Jonathan Mappin opened a workshop dealing in silver in Sheffield which was then as it is now a major centre of the English silver trade.

The set comprises a coffee pot, tea pot, milk/cream jug and sugar bowl atop a tray.

The tray is round in shape and measures 36cm in diameter excluding the feet and 39cm in diameter when including the feet. The height on its own is 4cm

All other measurements as follows: coffee pot 18cm x 14cm x 28cm, tea pot 21cm x 14cm x 23cm, milk/cream jug 11cm x 9cm x 16cm, sugar bowl 15cm x 12cm x 10cm

Dates to approximately early 1900s by WMF Jugendstil Secessionist Metal.
