  • Regency Era Silver Collectible Cutlery Knife An antique collectible butter knife made entirely in silver in the Regency era. The knife is extremely decorative and unusually the actual blade is also hallmarked and dates to 1814. The makers mark is M W & Co. The antique butter knife from the Regency era is a magnificent piece, showcasing the artistry and elegance of the time. This particular knife is made entirely out of silver, a popular choice for luxurious tableware during that period. What sets it apart is the remarkable attention to detail, making it an extremely decorative piece. While many butter knives of the time were fairly simple, this one deviates from the norm with its elaborate design. The handle is adorned with intricate engravings and delicate patterns, depicting motifs commonly seen during the Regency era such as floral designs, scrolls, and perhaps even mythological figures. The craftsmanship involved in creating such intricate details is awe-inspiring and a testament to the skill of the silversmith who crafted it. One of the most unique aspects of this antique butter knife is the fact that the actual blade is hallmarked and dates back to 1814. The hallmark is a stamp or mark typically designated by the assay office to indicate the purity and authenticity of the silver used. In this case, it provides a glimpse into the history of the knife and tells us that it is an original piece from the Regency era. The inclusion of a hallmarked blade is quite unusual for butter knives of that time. Most knives of this type had simple, unmarked blades as the focus was primarily on the handle's design. However, this knife stands out as a symbol of its era, combining both decorative beauty and historical significance in a single artifact. Owning such an antique butter knife not only allows one to appreciate the exquisite craftsmanship of the Regency era but also offers a tangible connection to the past. It serves as a reminder of the refined dining culture of that time, where attention to detail and elegance were highly valued. Measures 17.2cm in length with the blade having a width of 2.4cm

  • Mauchline Ware Burns Cottage Collectible Egg Timer A Mauchline Ware souvenir item, specifically an hourglass egg timer with a wooden frame containing red sand grains. The wooden frame is made from sycamore wood and features an oval sepia transfer with the inscription "Burns Cottage" on top, and on the base, it says "Made of Wood which grew on the banks of the Doon" and "bought in the monument". Mauchline Ware was a popular type of souvenir in Scotland during the 19th century, and these small wooden items were often decorated with pictures or designs that would appeal to tourists. Burns Cottage is the former home of the famous Scottish poet Robert Burns, located in Alloway near the River Doon. The wood used to make this souvenir item was sourced from the same area where Burns Cottage is located. It measures 5cm at its widest diameter and 8.3cm in height. W & A Smith of Mauchline, Ayrshire was one of the leading manufacturers of Mauchline Ware. They specialized in the production of transfer printed treen, which are wooden items decorated with images that were transferred onto the surface using a printing process. This technique allowed for high-quality and intricate designs to be produced on a large scale, making Mauchline Ware affordable and accessible to a wider market. The popularity of Mauchline Ware as gifts and souvenirs was due to its attractive and durable nature. The items were often small and portable, making them perfect as mementos of trips or as gifts for loved ones. The use of local scenes and landmarks, like Burns Cottage, further enhanced their appeal to tourists visiting Scotland. Out of stock
